A Story of a Boy with Strong Will – but with Serious Consequences

This is the story of a 17-year-old boy with great talent and high ambitions. From an early age, he showed signs of strong curiosity and an unusually sharp intellect. In school, he has always performed very well, especially in theoretical subjects like mathematics and science. His grades have been among the best in the class, and many teachers have had high expectations of him. He comes from a secure and loving family that has always supported him in his studies. He has a strong social network and many friends who appreciate his humor and energy.

On the surface, everything seems perfect – a boy with a bright future and great potential. But behind this external success lie difficulties that are not always visible. He has long struggled to maintain focus, especially in environments with lots of noise and activity.

Classrooms in the central part of the city, where he goes to school, are often chaotic and overstimulating. Despite his intelligence, he has trouble concentrating during long lessons. Sometimes he loses track and drifts off in thought, which frustrates both himself and his teachers. There have been occasions when he hasn’t completed assignments, even though he knows the subject well. His teachers have therefore begun to suspect that he may have ADHD.

They have noticed that he often appears restless, gets up in the classroom, and has difficulty sitting still. At the same time, he is very physical – he loves movement and spends a lot of time outdoors. Outside the home, he finds his freedom on the bicycle – it is where he feels alive and in control.

Cycling has become more than just a hobby; it is his outlet, a way to ease the inner restlessness he often carries. When he pedals through the city streets, the demands of daily life and school struggles feel far away. It is in the motion that he finds peace, a temporary balance between body and mind.

But over time, his cycling took on a different character – from calm exercise to dangerous races in traffic. He began challenging cars at high speed, swerving at the last moment, as if testing his own limits. For him, it wasn’t just a game but a way to feel strong and invincible. The adrenaline gave him a rush he couldn't find anywhere else. But it was a dangerous game, where a small miscalculation could have devastating consequences.

Despite warnings from both parents and teachers, he continued – as if nothing else could offer him the same sense of freedom.

One day, things went terribly wrong. It was a sunny afternoon, and he was cycling as usual at high speed through the city streets. He felt the wind on his face and let the adrenaline guide him – just like so many times before. But this day was different. An elderly driver, just turning out from a side street, didn’t see him. The collision was violent and came without warning. The bicycle’s metal was crushed under the car’s front, and the boy was thrown several meters through the air. He landed hard on the asphalt and immediately lost consciousness.

Bystanders rushed forward in panic and called an ambulance. Medical personnel arrived quickly and managed to stabilize him, but the situation was critical. At the hospital, emergency examinations were performed, including a CT scan of the brain. The images showed signs of bleeding in the right hemisphere – a serious finding that required intensive monitoring. He underwent emergency neurosurgery. To reduce pressure from the bleeding and save brain tissue, he had to undergo an urgent neurosurgical operation. The procedure was complex and involved temporarily removing part of the skull to allow drainage and reduce the risk of life-threatening brain swelling. This injury caused motor difficulties on the left side of his body. He became weak in both his left arm and leg, and even the left side of his face was affected.

Thankfully, he retained his ability to speak, which was a great relief for both his relatives and the medical team. But his body no longer felt like his own, and every movement became a struggle. Physiotherapists and occupational therapists immediately began rehabilitation to restore function in the affected parts of his body. In parallel, psychological support was initiated, because it wasn’t just his body that had been injured.

The accident left deep wounds in his soul. Part of his self-esteem and belief in the future was shattered in that accident. He, who used to be fast, strong, and free – now lay still in a hospital bed with an uncertain future.

The thoughts of what could have happened, or what he could have avoided, gnawed at him. It was the beginning of a long journey – not only toward physical recovery but also toward rediscovering himself.
